Why do I feel so guilty and self conscious using the infant car seat with the handle up even though our manual clearly states its ok and I double checked on the car seat lady's website? I guess there's still bad info out there. I've had two women at target tell me that I need to put it down.
Doesn't anyone else use it this way? |
|
I was misinformed about this as well. Not having to put it down allowed us to be able to have someone actually use the front seat of our car. Not sure why people think it can't be up while driving.
There is so much car seat misinformation out there. |
| We ALWAYS had ours in the carry position when driving, per the manual. No one ever commented on it though |
| It depends on the carseat. Some say not to do it. If your manual says it is ok, then it is ok. |
Us too, two kids and I had never even heard of it being unsafe that way. Always had the handle up. |
THIS. Graco says no, Britax says OK. |
Yes-- unfortunately, ours is supposed to be down. Weird that other people are commenting on it, OP, but corresponds w/ what I've found-- the people most likely to offer unsolicited advice are also most likely to be ignorant and offer incorrect advice. |
Yikes, me too, but I have a Graco. And I tend to be super safety conscious about carseats, still have almost 3 year old rear facing, etc. I'm done with infant seats in another month or so but can't believe I never knew this. |

I just read this somewhere! Maybe the Graco site?? I think I saw an update. This is great, because like a PP said, it's tough to use the front seat in our tiny car when the handle is down.
Not sure why it would be dangerous to keep it up anyway. |
| Pretty sure our 2011 graco manual says its okay in the fully up and fully down positions--it's the in between ones they say not to use while driving. |
|
Just ignore people who offer unsolicited advice.
Bravo to you for reading your child safety seat manual and verifying it's okay. They are tested by the manufacturer so follow their instructions and you should be good to go. |
| the first ones that came out years and years ago - the handle was required to be down. |
|
It completely depends on the carseat and the model. The only way to be completely sure is to read the carseat manual. I wish there was a uniform rule, but there isn't. I cannot repeat this enough: Read the manual!

| when i was having my car seat inspected by a cop they told me that it is supposed to be down because it can turn into a spear and stab your child if you have an accident. Interesting, but I still usually leave mine up. |
This. It depends on the carseat what is/isn't ok while driving. |
