What are some of your favorite races? 10K or less.
For smaller races (I LOVE half marathons, but thats not your question) there are so many and I generally choose the ones that support causes that are near and dear to me. They're all pretty similar. The one that I tried and really don't like is the Lawyer's Have Heart. It starts under a bridge so I couldn't get my garmin locked in and then they squeeze everyone into an even smaller space. I'm not doing that one again.
If you're looking to PR, run Pikes Peak 10k. Great race- I think it's in April.
The running store PRR has a whole series of races that are generally good and go all year long. You can check those out.
Not under 10K, but the Army 10-miler is the best race I've ever run. And I've done four full marathons and countless shorter races. It's very doable even if you normally don't run over the 10K distance.

I've done the Capitol Hill Classic in the past - that's a nice 10K in the spring. (I've also done Lawyers Have Heart and didn't mind it so much. The trick for the PP is to turn on your garmin when you get to the race site and let it lock in. Then when the race starts, you don't have to wait for it to lock in again. in theory.) St. Patrick's Day 10K is fun. Rudolph's Red Nose 10K is fun. If I were you, I'd check www.runwashington.com.
For beachgoers, Dewey/Rehoboth has a Seven Sisters race series culminating in the Bottle & Cork 10-Miler the weekend after labor day. It's mostly 5K's, plus one 10K and the 10Miler. |
