Preschool Teacher Salaries in the DC & Maryland Metro Area

Anonymous
Does anyone have an idea of what preschool teachers in the area make? I am talking about a preschool teacher, not daycare staff. Hours between 8am and 3pm, creates curriculum, manages class expectations, deals with parents. What would the going salary be at a preschool for a teacher with a bachelors degree in early childhood education and the proper DC or MD accreditation required to teach? I am interested in teaching preschool in this area, but have no idea what salary to expect. I taught part-time in Richmond, VA and I do not think the pay is similar. I would be interested in a private nursery school.

I think $35K to start, but more senior teacher definitely make more. Keep in mind, though, they have summers off!

I worked 9 to 1 and made about $22000 for the school year (ten months). This was 2 years ago. I got married and moved abroad so I don't know about salaries right now.
I do believe salaries vary a lot. I had a friend who did exactly the same job I did at a similar private preschool and made $15000

9 to 1 was class time, but I was there at 8 to set up and left around 2 after prep time and staff meetings, parents meetings, emails, etc.

I make $47K at a community based DC preschool... but I'm part of the DC Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Program. I'm a lead teacher.

At Temple Rodef Shalom preschool the salaries are pretty high as compared to most if not all other preschools. I recall the salary was close to what the county paid when I inquired years ago (but without benefits).

Public school special needs preschool teachers make the most.

Montessori teacher. 18 years experience. $47 K. Healthcare & retirement.

FYI: Franklin schools pay terribly and no benifits.

RE: Franklin. I have heard this before. Can you give specifics and how do you know?
