Good Bakery in Bethesda?

Anonymous
Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent bakery for basic kid bday cakes in Bethesda? I'm looking for something in between Safeway (can't deal with their bad attitudes) and Just Cakes (yummy but too pricey for me). I just tried ordering a cake at Safeway for a party in two weeks and got all sorts of attitude about how it was way too early to order. It might be a little early, but I'm trying to fit in all my responsibilities when I can, and was completely taken aback by having to justify to the bakery person the timing of my order. I didn't realize that two weeks was that early to order a cake! I could do Giant if I have to, but also find them somewhat unpleasant as well. Like they are doing me a favor by taking my order. Thanks.

What about the bakery next to Stosniders?

Never ordered a cake there before, but I do like that bakery. Pretty much the last family-owned local bakery left.

At the non-family-owned end of the scale, we've always gotten good cakes from Costco.

Jennycakes bakery in Kensington is fantastic

I ordered mine from Harris Teeter near White Flint. They were really pleasant. I have been to the bakery near stroschneiders and had some attitude from them as well, but cakes were good. That said, I think the price was similar to Just Cakes.

Wagshal's in Spring Valley makes some nice looking kids cakes.

In reality, not very many adults even try the cake and the kids could care less about the taste. They love that Crisco frosting. I just get the $30 one from Giant.

Also, you can order from Giant online...no human interface necessary.

Another vote for Wagshal's. I ordered a cake from them for a baby shower and it was delicious and beautifully decorated!
