My DH is full italian - mother is from Italy. My ex's stepdad is from Sicily. They don't eat tons of pasta.
DH's family from Italy eats lots of fish - topped with a sauce made of chopped canned tomatoes, garlic, and a wee pinch of fresh jalapeno pepper. My ex's stepdad from Sicily eats lots of steak, baked legs of lamb, or osso bucco braised (browned in a dry pan and then simmered in canned tomatoes with a bay leaf, garlic, and basil). The osso bucco and sauce is served over spaghetti. A side salad of tomatoes over sliced mozzarella topped with fresh basil leaves, olive oil, and a pinch of salt and fresh cracked pepper. yum! I miss my ex's stepdad!!!! |
| A 13x9 pan of lasagna. Or this meat sauce: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/old-italian-meat-sauce/detail.aspx |
Did I miss something? Did OP ask how to feed Italian family?
OP, are you making the meal? If so, lasagna and salad's great. (Though one 13 x 9 pan would not be enough.) If you are ordering in, Maggiano's excellent. |
| Eggplant parm. Easy, delicious and affordable. |
| Baked ziti, garlic bread and salad. |
| Baked shells with sauce and spinach/cheese stuffing -- that way people can have as much/little as they want...a little less boring than lasagna |
| I recently got take out from Manoli Canoli on Connecticut Ave for a group of 10. Delicious and well priced. |
