About to get snowed in - what food should I get?

About to get snowed in up north (but a former dc person so I read here) -- food recs? For the hurricane I gave it no thought and then got so sick of eating pasta, bread, and crackers for days on end. What are your must haves?

Depends on if you have a gas stove or electric. We have gas and it never goes out so we can still cook. Makes a big difference in planning.

Gas stove thankfully; just want simple things as I won't want to be in the kitchen forever but would still like to avoid eating the same 3 things for days.

I would stock up on fruit (whole or canned), a variety of canned beans, along with canned tomatoes (assuming there's a possibility you'd loose power) for tacos or burritos. Whole potatoes, maybe even some sweet potatoes. Mixed in with some pasta or rice you should be able to have some variety for a few days.

Grilled herb and tomato sandwiches. Homemade soups. Turkish coffee. You can make it on the stove.

chili is mostly pantry items and can simmer on the stove. toast for breakfast. grilled paninis canbe made with mostly room temp produce and pantry items. stuffed peppers with canned beans and tomatoes and onion could work too. vegetable asian stir fry. fajitas. rice pilaf. veggie burgers made with rice and beans.

Jar of Nutella and box of zestas. Oh wait, that's probably what you shouldn't get.

Things you can do a long and slow cook/braise-- lamb shanks, beef stew, short ribs. Chili is good too.

If your have kids of napping age, I remember the naps during snow storms and rain were always so much longer. I liked taking the time to cook then.

Make sure you have the fixings for hot chocolate.

Bacon.

Sorry, just reread your original post and realized I suggested a few foods you said you got tired of last time. But, if you think you might lose power, why not keep it simple. I hate trying to cook with no power.

um I am in the boston area too and you may be snowed in for a day. the roads will be fine Sat night-the weather next week has us close to 50 and much of it will melt-we will all be ok. Finish leftovers, I never understand this panic for food don't you have extra bread/milk/snacks at home for two days?
