Our 19 month old is not talking and we are looking for daycares/nursery schools/programs-- anything that is geared towards early intervention.

We know about the River School amd their amazing program for speech/hearing challenged kids but they have no room this fall. Can anyone make any suggestions as to other schools or programs that may help my DS?

We'll drive prety much anywhere within reason to get him some assistance, but we're in MOGO (thats's Montgomery County.)

How do you know that your 19 mo old needs early intervention?

Thanks for the suggestion on Ivymount. We just think he needs some special attention-- at the very least an assessment by a professional in that area. One thing I LOVE about the river school is that speech pathologists are on staff and assess and work with each and every student. If there are any (even the slightest) speech impediment or anything, it is immediately corrected with individualized therapy plans. The school itself is a top tier school, academically rigorous school-- but kids who need it get just a little extra integrated into their daily program... However, its not really the place for kids with Autism and such-- for some reason they just integrate the specialist on staff to address kids individual learning needs... I think were a child to be diagnosed with a bigger issue like autism, they'd probably refer you to another school-- not totally sure on that, but aside from the kids there with cochlear implants I didn't see one kid with a major learning disability.

Point is- I can't get him in there, so I wanted something similar. I don't think he has asperger's or autism, he just needs someone working with him on talking more often that me and hubby. Someone who knows what they're doing.

Have you had him evaluated by MOCO Infants and Toddlers? I understand from a friend who has a child with serious speech delays that the county offers a school program for children that fit the criteria.

Does the PP have information on where to call MOCO for this testing?

Possibly Easter Seals Child Development Center? There is a well-established one in Falls Church, but I believe that one has recently opened somewhere in Montgomery County. They have therapists that work with the children that attend their centers.
