I know this has been covered before but the situation still exists. When I try to read the site on an Android based device, it constantly does what I call a ping request update several times a minute. When this happens, the page I'm reading reloads and I have to start over unless ( and this sounds strange but it happens) I am touching the screen to basically "hold it in place". It get to be extremely frustrating when I trying to respond to a topic since I have to scroll back to my reply and try to get the cursor back where I was typing, especially when I'm typing a or replying to a long quoted post. |
Android user here and I agree. |
Can you guys tell me which Android devices you have and which version of the OS they are running? Sadly, there are a number of Android versions in the wild and I'd like to see if this can be narrowed to a single version. Also, which web browser do you use in Android?
FYI, according to Google Analytics, Android devices combined are less than 2% of our mobile traffic. Mobile makes up just less than half of our traffic these days. So, that means Android is accounting for about 1% of our traffic. In comparison, iPhone and iPad traffic is 75% of our mobile traffic. Blackberry has basically disappeared. |
I have an HTC Inspire, frankly not sure what OS b/c I'm technologically not that proficient. |
Mine is an HTC Incredible 2 running Android version 2.3.4 |
Well, it looks like a trend is developing. After some quick research, I found that the HTC Inspire has the Froyo version of Android (2.2). Android 2.3.4 is Gingerbread and the system that immediately followed Froyo. HTC apparently shipped (maybe still ships?) it's own web browser. As far as I can tell, roughly the same browser is in both of your phones. According to a post in this forum:
http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-incredible/218839-best-browser-froyo.html The refresh problem happens on a lot of websites. So, that's probably a bug in the browser. The posters in that forum recommend installing a browser called "dolphin hd". I am far from an expert on Android (my total time of using one is about 5 minutes), but I think both of those phones can be upgraded to use the Ice Cream Sandwich with is a much better version of Android. Then, you can use Google Chrome for Mobile which is a very good browser. You might look into doing that. I don't think there is anything I can do on my side. I know what is going on -- there is a page that is included in other pages that refreshes every 60 seconds to keep your sessions alive. This refresh should be behind the scenes and unnoticeable to users. That's the way it works for almost everyone. |
