Foreign Language (Spanish) in MoCo Elementary Schools?

Anonymous
I know about MoCo's Immersion Programs, but do any MoCo schools offer regular foreign language classes also?

It would seem like a good thing to add to the curriculum, but I haven't heard of any elementary school kids taking Spanish/French. I do hear about it in the middle schools though.

But, we just moved here last year, so maybe I just don't know?

No, it does not exist. Our PTA does have language classes after school.

In some instances this depends on the school... For example, Kemp Mill ES has its own internal Spanish/English hybrid program. Without having direct knowledge of programs for each local ES all I can say is to check the website thoroughly for the schools your child may attend.

MoCo does not consider foreign language to be part of the ES curriculum and generally does not offer it. There is a before/after school program called foreign language in elementary school (FLES) which is offered in most if not all schools (but quality of instruction may vary).

Thank you. Too bad they don't consider it part of the curriculum for elem school because I thought the younger, the better, when it comes to learning languages.

But I looked up our neighborhood elementary school and they do offer the FLES program that Pp mentioned. At least that will be an option if we do not get into the Immersion school.
