Experience with Dr. Suzanne Bathgate?

Anonymous
I saw her once this summer for preconception counseling and she seemed fine, but I called her office several times when I found out I was pregnant last week and did not get a return call. I'm hoping there is a good reason, but would be comforted to know some others had a good experience with her. Otherwise I may look for a new OB - any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dr. Bathgate is my OB and I have been very pleased with her. I left Georgetown at 20 weeks because I was fed up with my Dr. there who rarely looked me in the face and dismissed concerns and questions that I had. Dr. Bathgate has been very responsive and sensitive to my high risk needs. She immediately scheduled me for other screenings because I am a diabetic and hypertensive and talked me through why she felt these additional screenings were necessary. Because GW is computerized, she can read my results for bloodwork, ultrasounds etc. in a real time fashion as opposed to flipping through pages of reports like my doctor at Georgetown had to do. She coordinates with my other doctors as well making sure that they are informed of her efforts. The support staff is pretty good. I have had hit and miss when it comes to wait times. She has a day where she only sees high risk patients and the appointments last longer so I really don't mind having to wait. She always asks how I am feeling which is so important and she always answers my questions. Lastly, I like the fact that it is a teaching hospital. Good luck.

Ditto to PP. Dr. Bathgate has been my OB thru 2 pregnancies, and I feel she is very attentive and takes the time to read through my files. Often in an appointment she will recapp last several appt results with me to show where we are now. I like knowing that she has a good grasp on my medical history and testing results. I do find that I often wait for appts but like PP I do find once I am in there she isn't rushing and takes her time.
Good luck!

I had another OB but when I started having trouble in 2nd trimester I saw Dr. Barthgate in the hsopital. Especially under the circumstances - I was on bed rest at 21 weeks and they were not able to stop premature delivery - she and the rest of the staff at GW were wonderful.

My husband and I had a pre-conception appt with Dr. Bathgate because I was a high-risk candidate and although we found her to be very knowledgeable, we were bothered by the wait times, general bureaucracy and rude receptionists that we dealt with at GW. Also, Dr. Bathgate had me take a few blood tests and I had to practically hunt her down to get results three weeks later. It seemed that Dr. Bathgate is just incredibly overbooked. When I got pregnant, I felt that I didn't want to deal with that kind of hassle for the next nine months. Now I'm with a practice at Shady Grove that is much better organized and responsive. Good luck.
