If I get a mac, should I get refurbished.
My research so far says to get one with low ram and upgrade it afterwards, and apple store is more expensive than amazon, best buy Anyone bought? What would you do differently? |
| I vote Mac all the way - refurbished is fine. You know you can get a Mac laptop right? |
|
I was always a PC girl and then all my friends were pushing me to get a Mac, saying it's better, but not articulating why. When I was ready for a new laptop, I got a refurbished Mac. This was a HUGE deal for me - I won't shop in thrift stores, and am grossed out by used stuff.
But! My refurbished Mac came in a box and totally looked new. Plus because of the lower price for refurbished I paid the same amount of $ as I would have for a PC. It is now SIX years later and I am just starting to think of replacing it. |

Mac.
Buy it refurbished through the Apple Store. I've done that twice now and my last one lasted 5 years. I replaced it with an 11 inch MacBook Air for $762. |
| Agh. I had both a Mac and PC. Although I had my Mac for a year I could never get the fully get hold of the operating system. I'm a 20 something college student who's not compute illiterate. I got another PC a year later. That said, I do LOVE my iPhone and Macs are known to get LESS virus threats. I tried it and hated it. That was a lot of $$ wasted. |
| A mac...laptop |
| Apple customer service is great--if you get a laptop from them be sure to get AppleCare. |
| a Mac for sure. I will never go back to PC. I run my business from my laptop and it is so easy to use. I get way more done and never worry about viruses or it running too slowly. |
|
Mac has the same processor. Only difference is the fancy look and the operating system.
If you want, you can change the OS |
| Once you go MAC you never go back! |
Fascinating.... |
Very true. I got a MacBook years ago when I was talked into it by my brother. I got a refurbed one through Apple and it is still going strong 6 yrs later. It's a tad slow but it is like 100 yrs old in technology time. |
| Six years, that's it? I have two Sony laptops, one is six years old and the other is nine. |
| The Macbook is not the best purchase in my opinion. Of course, this is not a bad thing for artwork with lots of rendering, but only for this. However, only for these purposes, it is too overpriced. Seems silly, right? You can read about comparing windows and macos yourself. I think you will be interested to learn something new. |
Not true with the new M1 Macs. OP, the M1 Macs are not available in the refurbished store yet, but a new one would probably be just as affordable for you. I suggest one of those with as much RAM as you can afford (you can't add RAM later). These Macs are the future and, if you have an iPhone, you will be able to run many of your iPhone apps on it if you want. |
