tipping a babysitter?

I babysat all the time through college and I've never heard of tipping a babysitter, just a flat rate. If something happened when I was on duty sometimes parents would be generous and give a little extra but not always (child awake crying or threw up, etc).

Yes, I am a babysitter and always get tipped extra. If the parents don't tip, I don't babysit for them a second time. There are plenty of people who DO tip that it's rarely an issue.

What exception service do you provide that warrants tipping?

That would be fine with me. If a babysitter expected a tip (over a reasonable wage), I wouldn't want them to work for me again.

I was never tipped as a babysitter. The mom did round up/ paid a full hour for 15 minutes. I never even thought of being tipped on top of my hourly...

I assume you include those tips when you report your babysitting income for tax purposes too.

Babysitters set their own wages so tipping seems silly, unless it's the holidays or an unusually difficult charge/evening.

Are you kidding me??? This is like tipping the owner of a hair salon, which is a no-no. You are setting your own wages and getting the money directly, it's not like someone is taking a cut of it. This is so incredibly selfish, you are disgusting.

I'm a babysitter and I do not get tipped. I always appreciate parents who round up.

As I set my own rate, I don't really see the point. I could see if your babysitter went above and beyond (Like you're walking out the door to dinner, and you JUST remember that you need to bring in cupcakes to DC's Sunday School class tomorrow. Babysitter offers to bake them after DC has gone to bed and you are very grateful that you don't have to do it when you get back at midnight).

I wasn't tipped as a sitter and certainly don't tip now. I don't tip my housekeeper either every week.
