We plan to drive down for Spring Break. We decided to spend the night in Charleston, SC. Planning to leave around 4:00 a.m. to arrive in Charleston in the afternoon. Have a nice dinner and then push off the next morning.

We drove back in 2009, but we had 3 drivers. Prefer leaving at about 7-8PM and drive through to get there the next morning. Kids slept almost the whole time!

Should also add we drove straight through. No stop. On the way back, we left during the day, so stopped at South of the Border for about 30 minutes.

We drove one full day, spent the night in Savannah, then did the rest the next day. Got to Orlando around lunchtime.

We've driven 3 times. We are in Prince William County, VA. All the kids below are the same kids--just the exact month/year we went will make their ages vary

1. 2 adults, 4 kids ages 7, 6, 3, and 18 months. Left work a little early and started down around 4 pm. Arrived in Florence, SC late at night and spent the night...started out the next morning and arrived in Orlando around 6 pm

2. 2 adults, 4 kids ages 9, 8, 5, and 3. Left around 4 or 5 am and arrived in Orlando around 9 pm

3. 2 adults, 4 kids ages 12, 10, 7, and 6. Left around 3 pm and drove as far as Brunswick GA and spent the night. Left the next morning and arrived in Orlando around 4 pm.

This the way, usually only I drive however. I stay up the night before then sleep all day and we leave right after dinner. We do this for trips to FLorida or home to Louisiana

We did it a while ago stopping for a night and half day in Savannah on way over and then coming back stopped in Charleston for the night and half day. Both places are gorgeous and small enough to do some sightseeing. It was great.

Savannah stop is the way to go. It's not far off the highway. You can stay downtown for relatively cheap and eat somewhere nice then finish up the next day. Charleston is super nice but it's way further off the highway.
