Running at high altitude

Anonymous
I live in the DC area, but am on vacation in a high altitude place for a week. I am training for a run, so wanted to run while I was in vacation but had to stop three times today, totally out of breath. Any suggestions for running at a high altitude? Should I go less distance? Just take it slower? I am not here long enough to really get acclimated, but also don't want to take a break since my race is only a month away.

Just go slower. Keep it at the same level of effort that you would normally run even though this will be slower.

Go slow and keep drinking tons of water.

Normal. I lived for a few years at 6,000 feet above sea level and never got fully accoustomed.

it was amazing when I came back to the states to visit, felt like i could run for days with all the oxygen.
