My DC Charter is on a street that goes one way during the drop off and pick up times. I know with the 2 hour delay we went past the "posted" time but I got yelled at by a man who was also dropping off his kids because there was no room for him to drive down the street. Yes it is past 9:30 but you know there is a two hour delay that is why you are here now too. The road is narrow and you are the only one trying to come up the street and there are several cars behind me the way it would be without the delay.
Crossing guard and a DC DOT person just standing to the side watching this idiot screaming at the cars who can't let him pass. And he also had Maryland plates. |
| You poor thing. That sounds like it was a really bad experience. |
| you should have taken his license place and report it to the school to verify whether his child complies with residency rules. |
|
Wait - the road is one way during a 2 hour window. It was outside that window, so he was legally driving down the street. You (and others) blocked the street so he couldn't get past. He yelled at you and others.
I agree with him, Marylander and residency cheat or not. |
| Tell him to go the hell back to MD and get his residency ID. What the hell is he doing in our school anyway? |
| Yeah, in what world do you argue with a road-rage person in the District? Talking smack and getting smack or talking back and getting shot is not too far fetched. Getting yelled at in front of your child is only ego damaging if you acknowledged the fool. So, take on a Mr. T attitude and pity da fool!!! |
| Hmmm. I bet you are at my school. I just ignore the jerks completely. They can always find another way to get where they are going. If you go down a one way street past a school during drop off and pick up, then YOU are the idiot, not me. The city's a grid - go around you morons! |
Agreed. It is ALWAYS the cars with Maryland plates that cause a problem. I'm convinced no one in MD actually knows how to drive. |
What part of 2 hour delay do you not understand, moron? |
| Is it possible that he was going down the street for some reason other than the school drop off. Read the sign that said one way during the two hour window, saw it wasn't that window and drove down the road? |
The directionality of the street goes by the clock, period. I don't see any road signs that said "No left turn 7-9:30 am, except for when the federal government is two hours late, in which case it will be no left turn from 9-11:30 am." What about non-parents who happened to be driving down the street? Would you be angry at them, too, for not knowing what was going on? Obviously a parent should know better, but legally he was within his rights to drive the other way, if we're understanding correctly. |
What exactly would you have parents do? Teleport their children to school? And yes, I would expect ANYONE - parent or not - to be aware that there was inclement weather and school delays, and to be more understanding. If I was OP that driver would have gotten my middle finger the minute my kid was safely inside. |
Perhaps but so what? That person can't wait 30 seconds so that OP can get her kid safely inside the school? Who the fuck is SOOOO important that they can't wait? If they were stuck behind a school bus, they'd be legally required to stop and there wouldn't be a damned thing they could do about it. In the absence of a school bus, it's pretty much the same deal for parents dropping off their kids. OP has my total sympathy and the other parent is a straight up dick. |
What part of traffic.laws.don't you understand? Neighbors can't keep track of every random charter's opening/closure schedule, nor should they. It's on parents to obey the law, and.to respect the people whose houses they drive past every day. People like you give charters a reputation as bad neighbors. |
| Agree with PP, park around the block where you can safely and legally get your kid to school. Are you really complaining because someone didn't wait a few minutes while you illegally double park? Why are you so entitled? Why is your rush more important than another driver's? |
