Are you a current or former Lemon Road ES family or staff member? My kid is headed to your school next year, and I would like to hear what you love about your school, what you might change, and how we new families can integrate and get involved. I'd especially love to hear from former Freedom Hill families about your experience at LRES this year.
If you've tuned in here to snark, snipe or criticize, then please go find another thread. |

My ds is also headed for LR.
I would love to hear about field trips, special events, etc. Do the 4th graders go to Jamestown? Are there any language programs available after school? Do kids who do, or don't wear the uniform get teased? |

bump - DS starting kindergarten.
how does all the Haycock renovation/buzz this past week or so affect lemon road too I am wondering. |
| Such a nice school, seriously, you will be surprised. From office staff to specials teachers...amazing. We moved and are now at another fcps school that is more of a "name" school and while some things are good about it, I miss the warm atmosphere at LR. |
| bump... |

"We need more Lemon Road"!
Or was that "Lemon Pledge"? |

My son went to Lemon road several years ago. He is now in HS. They do go to Jamestown/Williamsburg/Yorktown in 4th grade - that is a Fairfax wide field trip. I can't help but think that the culture will change since there is a new Principal and LR will have grown 50%-100% in two years. It doesn't mean that the culture will be better or worse, but it will be different. It will no longer be a small school with very small class sizes. It was an anomoly in this part of the county and its time has past - the stresses of a growing system are ensuring it.
I think the potential is there to create a wonderful learning environment that reflects its past but also embraces the new. It will take people being open to change and to new ways of doings things (both the older Lemon Road community and the new Lemon Road community). I hope people come willing to maintain some traditions and also come to start some new ones. Give people the benefit of the doubt, assume the best in people, take on a few tasks that no one traditionally wants to do. If you want something to happen, volunteer to lead or co-lead it. Don't say, "at my old school,....." Don't say, "This is the way we have always done ....... I am sure there will be growing pains and something will fall through the cracks - if does - be helpful.

Jamestown is not countywide. This is the first year that fourth graders at Shrevewood have gone. I am happy to hear that Lemon Road participates. |

Haycock is the best mclean pyramids is the best no way their cheaper houses are better , there got that out of the way.
Its an excellent school and will only get better as the neighborhoods feeding the school continue to jump in value and equalize to the surrounding mclean neighborhoods. |
What is wrong with you?? No one is talking about Haycock or property values. |
So...the first sentence was someone from Pimmit Hills purporting to describe the attitude of Haycock/McLean families, and the second sentence was intended to be THE TRUTH as seen from Lisle Avenue or Pimmit Drive? Whatever...it's nice to see people gearing up to make Lemon Road their school! |
Haycock and lungfellow !!!!!!! |
| The school has a nice outdoor gardening program and I'm impressed by how many afterschool activities there are for such a small school. |
Too good Consuela, but appropriate here. |

Anyone know the size of SACC at LR?
If they have small SACC, what do they have afterschool care? As a working mom, afterschool care is a headache. |
