So my husband and I have been ttc since last March- didn't really think about it, just had sex when we wanted and thought maybe after a few months it would happen- of course I was mistaken. I finally made an appt with md in December- he did a "mid luteal progesterone level" and mine came back 0.2. Problem #1. Apparently most women in the middle of a cycle, not pregnant should be 6-20. So he Rx, prometrium. I am to take it on days 16-25 after the first day of my period. In the mean time DH has gone and offered the ever so comfortable sperm sample in the office and those results came back this week with his sperm being "immature". They set up an appt. with a specialist for him. Has anyone ever had this low progesterone level before? Did the prometrium work? Should we even ttc prior to his appt in March (the soonest he could get in)? I need any input or thoughts please...or just encouragement.
I try everyday to be thankful..some women out there are going through this for years and I'm thankful our md did the tests as early as he did, but I guess I'm looking for other experiences with either problem. Thank you in advance- I am 29 and DH is 33. |
I think the bigger concern is the immature sperm. From what I understand, that's a rare condition and it can be hard to overcome it (even with IVF).
No harm in continuing to try before his appointment, but ask lots of questions about the immature sperm -- are they all immature, are some mature, what are possible treatments, what are possible causes, etc. As for progesterone, I have a friend who conceived via IUI with low progesterone and she now has a healthy boy. Her husband didn't have any male factors, though. Hope you get good news at the appointment...and there are lots of next steps you can pursue. |
Agree with PP. Even with prometrium, if your husband's sperm is not developed nothing will happen without IVF. He should wear boxers, discuss 'easy' solutions with his doc. |
They only did 1 SA? What percentage were immature? |
