Local snorkeling?

| Is there anywhere within driving distance of DC where people can do day-trip snorkeling? Trying to arrange a birthday outing for a friend who wants to try snorkeling. (The birthday is in April but the snorkeling could be during summer too.) The scenery doesn't have to be awesome, just a decent novice experience. TIA. |

| I don't know of any, I don't think there's any water clear enough for snorkeling that's within driving distance. |

| No there is not. But you could visit a local lake (Lake Anna, Deep Creek Lake, Smith Mountain Lake) or a clear river like the Rappahanock. Not much to see in these greenish waters. Long Island has pretty clear water in the Hamptons. |
