What do the circles next to the topic mean

Can anyone tell me what the circles next to the topic signify? Sometimes I see an arrow, sometimes a static bell shape and sometimes a moving bell shape.

If you go to one of the forum topic lists, it is explained at the very bottom of the page (not the main forum page, but, for instance, open "General Parenting" and scroll down).
