I am pregnant with our first and very excited!!! I am not one of those people, however, who baby sat or had younger siblings so I literally know nothing. None of my friends have had children yet so I don't really know anything pregnancy! Can you share what pregnancy-related web sites you find good resources of info?
Thanks so much! |
I was on bed rest so went to many of them...though I can't say I have a favorite. I did like the one (I think it was http://www.pregnancy.org/) that had a weekly calendar and it would send you update on what was happening each week. What I liked more was some of the books on pregnancy - from the informative "What to Expect..." type to the humorous "Belly Laughs", "Girlfriends Guide...." "Parenthood", etc. |
Babycenter has a lot of info on pregnancy, babies etc. You can sign up to receive an email for each week of your pregnancy (you put in your due date so it's customized) and that tells you what's happening developmentally with your baby, your own body, things to look out for/issues etc etc. I thought it was pretty cool and my husband enjoyed the emails as well (he signed up separately from me, so he got his own email). In some ways I think it was even more helpful to him than me, as it made the pregnancy more "real" to him. I also got lots of info lurking on Babycenter's forums - there is a board for each birth month for example, so there are hundreds of women who are all due at the same time discussing their issues/asking questions etc. I believe it's changed in the last few months though and is more like a social networking site now (which I don't like so I don't really lurk there anymore). Congrats on your pregnancy! |
"Sippy Cups are not for Chardonnay" is a really funny book about all that you have to look forward to as a new mom. |
Ditto the babycenter.com and pregnancy.org recommendations. Babycenter has tons of info on pregnancy and also newborn and child care. So you can literally read (and watch) how to change a diaper, bathe a newborn, etc. As someone who had never changed a diaper in my life before my son's, I found all of these tutorials helpful and reassuring. And pregnancy.org also has birth bulletin boards that are fun for lurking, especially in the current month or a couple previous months where you can read birth stories and see the various things newborns are up to. |
For sheer entertainment, I'm addicted to zero to 40, a weekly blog by a local DC mom and mom-to-be.
It's my treat every Monday morning - I love it! You can follow along by clicking on the week that coresponds to where you are in your pregnancy. Here's the link: http://www.alphamom.com/pregnancy-calendar/2008/07/weekly-pregnancy-calendar-week-25.php |
+1 to the PP's recommendation for Amalah's Zero to Forty pregnancy calendar on Alpha Mom! The Alpha Mom site itself also has some good info. Check out the videos and product recommendations. I also used Baby Center, and the What to Expect When You're Expecting site at www.whattoexpect.com

The author of "Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay" also has a blog:

Finding message boards like this one that have Due Date clubs are a lot of fun. Check out http://www.constantchatter.com It's a great way to meet other moms and ask for advice. |
