DC Half-Marathon

I am debating running the DC half-marathon. Anyone run it? Is it a good race? Is it well organized? It is pricier than other area races. Thanks in advance.

I think it's pricier bc it's a rock n roll race- they always cost more. I haven't run it but if you're looking for a local half in the Spring, go for it.

PP here. Was going to add that RnR raves are generally well organized

We've done DC half when it was SunTrust, before it was a RnR. It was a nice course, well organized, we really enjoyed it. We've also done several RnR races which were also well done. We are thinking of doing this one again.

The best part was when we went through some neighborhoods and people had their car radios on blasting hip hop and cheering. It was a fun crowd

This is my favorite race for a few reasons:

-Nice course, you get to see the real DC
-Well organized, even better than the Army 10 miler
-Fun and great energy
-Training and running this time of the year is ideal. I can't stand fall marathons because I have to train in the humid misery of August and September (still so hot in Sept)
-Fairly flat

Buy early and pay a discounted rate. I bought when registration opened and paid $65 for the marathon

I ran it this past March. I thought the course & crowd support were great (it was St. Patty's Day, which made it a fun/festive atmosphere). But I was not all that impressed with the logistics (crowded, not-well-signed starting area; small, crowded finish area, etc.) nor the "rock-n-roll" part of it-- seemed like half the bands were in between sets when I ran by, so I probably only heard about 3 bands during the entire 13.1 miles. (Maybe that was just bad luck on my part.)

I've run tons of races over the past 20 years, but this was my first R-n-R event. Like I said, overall, it was a good race, but I don't feel the need to become a Rock-n-Roll groupie or anything.
Good luck!
