Don’t understand this thread. Dcps will have ECE next year. No classes are decreasing. |
Resources are decreasing so quality of ECE will go down. No money for ECE professional and teacher development, supplies, extra aides, testing, etc... If DCPS decides to maintain all the ECE in their schools and that’s a big if, it likely won’t be as available the following year or offered to only low income families. |
Given that they’ve already run the lottery for next year, so there would be no way to partially cut it in any transparent and fair way for the upcoming year, it will definitely be around next year. |
Being right in the end doesn't cause it to have been supported at the time the prediction was made. This troll spread so many different rumors, like a stopped clock it's not surprising that one of them panned out. |
Here we go again. This person is always trying to stir up rumors and it always comes back to how special and wonderful the ECE professional development is. |
Troll was telling the truth. |
Just got the email (non-English version). “After reviewing the process of submitting an application for Head Start funding, we have decided to voluntarily waive the Head Start grant.“
Full text (translated) below: April 15, 2020 Dear parents of DC Public schools, I hope you all are healthy in this unprecedented time. In January, we reached out to parents of elementary schools to inform us about how the Federal Head Start fund might change next year. In accordance with our commitment to transparency to the community, we now provide updated information. DC Public Schools (DCPS) ensures quality curriculum for all preschool classes, and we're proud to have nearly 7,000 preschool students attend this year. With funds from the Federal Head Start program, we can enhance preschool programs at Group I schools by offering additional support and package services to improve the quality of learning. , health, and family happiness. After reviewing the process of submitting an application for Head Start funding, we have decided to voluntarily waive the Head Start grant. This decision will not reduce the number of prekindergarten enrollments at DCPS schools next school year, which will allow us to make greater efforts for the model program in all our preschool classes. Access to quality, affordable childcare is an essential need for every family throughout the district, and DCPS prides itself on providing free, universal preschool education in a learning environment. road to ensure our children are ready to enter kindergarten. Through local investment, the preschool board will become more consistent with the DCPS cluster support model and will be set up to provide both guidance and family support services to schools. to ensure our classes can continue to provide high quality preschool services. However, for some affected schools, we expect support staff and subsidized resources - including family services and instructional training - to be cut. DCPS is planning this possibility. Because of the changing demographics of schools that make fewer students eligible to receive Head Start funds as well as changing systems to enhance supervision and safety for students, DCPS is expected to have Head Start fund decline for fiscal year 2021. In the future, we will continue to support package services for families with the most difficult access to school-level opportunities or through community partners. In addition to the guidance, medical and family services provided to families, DCPS remains focused on conducting supervisory activities in preschool classes. Please find the attached Frequently Asked Questions for Family to answer the top questions. With a strong commitment to the youngest students, DCPS has made significant improvements in the quality of its classrooms over the past five years, and we look forward to working with you to build a pathway for your children. to success. DCPS maintains its commitment to providing a high quality early childhood education program that we know has a significant and lasting impact on school readiness, achievement throughout the learning process, and a positive life. . Thank you for your continued support of Early Childhood Education at DCPS. |
Class sizes aren't decreasing, yet 49 paraprofessional positions will be eliminated and there will likely be fewer classroom supplies. |
Oh nooooooes! |
So what is a rumor again? The Chancellor just released a letter to all preK families about there not being Head Start next school year. |
It's a rumor unless supporting documentation is provided. Being right on occasion doesn't mean it wasn't a rumor at the time it was first stated. |
We all got the email:
April 15, 2020 Dear DC Public School Families, I hope you are doing well in this unprecedented moment. In January, we reached out to our elementary school families with information about how federal Head Start funding at your school may change next school year. In our commitment to be transparent with our communities we are today providing an update. DC Public Schools (DCPS) ensures high-quality early learning programming across all of our Pre-K classrooms, and we are proud to have nearly 7,000 Pre-K students in our schools this year. With funding from the federal Head Start program, we have been able to enhance the Pre-K programs in our Title I schools by offering additional supports and wraparound services that promote early learning, health, and family well-being. Following an evaluation of our re-application process for Head Start funds, we have come to the decision to voluntarily relinquish our Head Start grant. This decision will not reduce the number of Pre-K seats at DCPS schools next school year; it allows us to better strive for exemplary programming in all of our Pre-K classrooms. Access to high-quality, affordable childcare is a critical need for families across the district, and DCPS is proud to provide free, universal Pre-K in a school environment to ensure all of our young learners are ready for kindergarten. Through an investment in local funding, our early childhood division will become more aligned to the DCPS cluster support model and will be structured to provide both instructional and family service supports to schools to ensure that our classrooms are able to continue providing high quality Pre-K services. However, for some impacted schools, we expect some grant-funded support staff and resources — including family services and instructional coaching — will be reduced. DCPS has been planning for this possibility. Due to the shifting demographics of our schools that resulted in fewer Head Start-eligible students — as well as implementing systemic changes to enhance student supervision and safety — we anticipated a reduction in Head Start funding for Fiscal Year 2021. Looking ahead, we will continue to support families furthest from opportunity with wraparound services either at the school level or through community partners. In addition to the instructional, clinical, and family services provided to families, DCPS remains acutely focused on the implementation of effective supervision practices in our Pre-K classrooms. Please find attached a FAQ for families that address some questions that may be top of mind. As a result of steadfast commitment to our youngest learners, DCPS has seen significant improvements in our classroom quality ratings over the last five years and we look forward to charting your child’s success together. DCPS remains committed to providing high-quality early childhood education programs that we know have a significant and lasting impact on a child's school readiness, achievement throughout their education, and positive life outcomes. Thank you for your continued support of DCPS’ Early Learning. Sincerely, Lewis D. Ferebee, Ed.D. Chancellor DC Public Schools |
I’ve been following this and everything that was posted about head start has been true. You people are the first to accuse troll and the last to admit that you have been wrong every single time. Yea troll. |
These people posting have information and are posting to inform nothing else. Does not mean they don’t know or have the correct information. They work in that area in some capacity, |
Exactly. This person tried to warn everyone months ago, but many of you people dismissed the information. Yea, who looks like a clown now? All of the people that screamed TROLL look foolish. |
