The vast majority of people on food stamps DO work. @$$hole. |
I do not understand how people don't get this. Most, by far, of the people who get food assistance are the working poor. |
| That some kids don't go on vacation ever -- like no vacations from age 0-18 (and frankly even thru the 20s bc then you're worried about a living wage, helping out your parents etc) -- not even visiting family or driving vacations because your entire extended family lives in the same city as no one ever moved out/had the chance to move out someplace that you could visit. |
I honestly think that some kids esp in well to do suburbs like Bethesda/McLean etc. don't even realize this because EVERY school break involves a family vacation esp. these days; I don't remember that being so common when I was growing up, even among the well to do, but now they are off skiing during winter break, a week in Europe for spring break, at their family's beach or mountain house in the summer, not to mention shorter trips thrown in for various school 3 or 4 day weekends. |

Pp here that just went on snap - I actually don’t work because this is a recent situation. My husband works a minimum 60 hours a week, we have no local family to watch the kids, and daycare costs would eat up whatever I managed to earn.
My older son goes to a school that requires volunteer hours - so I do all kid related tasks, keep up the House, do the book keeping for the business, run kids back and forth to school, etc And when possible I do work for a family member for under the table - not legal but that little bit of money helps with little things like birthdays I know that is a ton of detail but really I agree most people have no idea what this level of poverty is like. |
You might consider posting a flyer at school offering to be a back-up or full-time carpool driver, especially in the afternoon. I know a lot of people that need this service and would pay cash. |
My law school roommate went to a small college in Appalachia and she had never seen someone wearing a yarmulke before and asked me what it was after the first day of class. "Why were all those guys wearing beanies?" She thought it was a law fraternity. She also started law school with really long fake blue colored nails, she had gotten them done right before leaving home b/c to her they were the height of class/fashion. |
Is either of you the poster who applied for the SNAP card? If not, allow the poster to answer. |

Pp here - if I had a bigger car that would work - can’t fit a third booster. Otherwise I would care for a child in my home. But I have to drive for school pick up/drop off. Again, this situation is temporary and is giving me a new appreciation for how difficult it is |
This is me. |
| It's true that many kids do not get to go on vacation. My kids' friends rarely leave town at all, while my kids go on vacation every year. We are not wealthy, not even close, but we put money back for life experience. It's important to us that they visit as many places as they can. |

The free lunches at law firms become tax wrie-offs. Subsidized welfare for the rich. |

What a huge start in life it is to have your parents fund your education, provide you with income so you can take the unpaid internship, providing the down payment on your first home, paying all of the education or therapy costs for your children, provide a vacation home that you can visit anytime...

"We had ebt in grad school and applied online" hahaha. That statement. You are so not really poor. |
This is actually completely untrue. The Ivies have huge endowments and offer incredible merit scholarships. My very poor and very smart sibling went to an Ivy and I had about $10k student debt for all four years. So. No. |
