I think there is something to what the OP says.

I'm out in the seattle area and the white people in bellevue (It's like Arlington) look so much happier, healthier, and fitter than other ethnicities (even though other ethnicities are also working similar jobs and making similar money at microsoft, Amazon, expedia, etc).

I went up to vancouver and noticed the same thing. Upper Middle class white people are really good at life even when controlling for income.

And I think "being nice" is ingrained in White culture, especially for women. So maybe we're more apt to hide our anger, worry or sadness...?

OP, maybe you are depressed? Have you been to see the doctor about this?

After Native Americans, white Americans have the highest rates of suicide in the US- by far. So perhaps they *seem* happier (although I haven't noticed this), but statistically, they most definitely are not happier.

I see many white women with the resting bitch face syndrome. They don't look happy to me, but they may be.

White moms - working both in and outside of the home - appear to be the most stressed out. They're on overdrive all the time.

Childless pals (no kids or kids who are out of the house) are the happiest - and that includes friends of all races.

But I agree that my black pals, for example, with kids don't stress over some of the weird stuff my white pals do. Family is very important in their cases, which is an added layer of support. (And I'm not trying to generalize; this has just been my experience.)

It's been theorized that this is why black women have the lowest rates of suicide in the United States- they have the closest, most supportive network of family and friends.

I remember the late, great Reggie White. What is it he said?
Whites are good at organization
blacks are good at celebration
and the Hispanics are good at cramming a lot of people into a small house/apartment.
something like that.

IMO the happiest people seem to be African and Filipino women.

Veterans Affairs officials have announced that studying the uniquely supportive culture of black women might provide a key to addressing the spike in suicides occurring in the armed forces. According to the Los Angeles Times, “Suicides among U.S. military members have spiked this year, with an average of one suicide a day — the highest rate so far during a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan.” MSNBC reports that this is an 18 percent increase in military suicides compared to last year.

While the government does not break down military suicides according to race, among the general population African-American women have the lowest suicide rate of any group. Surprisingly, white men die most often by their own hand. “The suicide rate among white men was 25.96 per 100,000 from 2005 to 2009, according to the Centerns for Disease Control and Prevention,” related Government Executive magazine in its piece on studying black women to reduce soldier suicides. “By comparison, the rate for black women was less than three suicides per 100,000.”

I think a lot it comes down to the theory that black women are not extraordinarly surprised when bad things happen in life, life isn't by default great

I don't know how you can make such a general statement in the first place. But I'll bite ... people of all races are depressed. But middle class white people are more likely to be low key anyway (how can you tell?) or go through the polite motions, or simply go to their doctors and take antidepressants. best of luck try your doctor if you are still so unhappy, presuming everything else is OK.

Getting all stressed out if someone lese is so much "happier" than you is a sign of depression.

People who have not always had it easy in life tend to be resilient. Suicide is high in developed countries with high standards of living yet lower in third world countries full of people living in poverty. Black women usually have an important role in that many are financially and otherwise responsible for raising their children as single parents and sometimes even their grandchildren.
