Demographics explain those results pretty obviously. |
Is this some sort of, "look, violent crime's no big deal when it's increased 39% year on year in DC specifically so look away and pretend everything is fine!" post? |
What do you mean by “demographics”? |
Poverty rate |
Exactly what the “crime happens in southern red states” crowd refuses to notice. |
The whole DC area looks a lot more seedy and rundown than it used to. Weeds and overgrown plants, uncared for houses, terribly designed and patchwork renovations, etc. It's all just so ugly. |
We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas!

I like how the candidate for ANC in the article is running on a “non-punitive” approach to crime. That’s really been proving itself to work. If criminals know they’re is a less punitive outcome they commit less crimes. Also, huffing glue is healthy. |
I was told on DCUM thread that skyrocketing crime is not noticeable. |
You would think with that tax catastrophe looming the city might try to protect the rest of the tax base as it did in the 90s...People who have not been here long do not understand that the boom times can reverse. |
There is a saying that people's behavior makes perfect sense when they have a different goal than you do... There were attempts to pierce the funding of DC Justice Lab, who has had a hand in drafting much recent crime legislation, but, still opaque. Since the "Emergency Crime Bill" of Pinto's, things have gotten significantly worse but now there is silence from Bowser, CMs, etc. That was just this summer. Frumin in some weak sauce. Goulet would have been a much more effective choice. |
Many cities are in for a rude awakening because of this. I know the city is aware but besides a continued hope that workers return in significant numbers they are doing anything. The boom will soon be over. |
It’s not. But if you do notice, you’re just supposed to leave. |
And supposed to shut up, shhhhhh!!! |
