Please explain how a freelancer is not a “real” job? I’ll wait! |
| Ok Clare. |
I live in an apartment and I tip well because you’re relatable. I value what you do and I’m grateful that I don’t have to cook or go out for food, and I can order from different restaurants easily. When I order at work I also tip really well because I must’ve forgotten my lunch or had a busy day and couldn’t easily leave to have lunch out. I wouldn’t die without your service, but I do value that it makes my life easier. |
| Maybe these companies will start paying their workers more instead of relying on their customers to pay their employees |
| I order $13 worth of food yesterday. I was slapped with an automatic delivery fee, a $3 service fee, and now there is tip. By the time I was done, I pay $11 in extraneous charges. |
| Food delivery fees are the new airline fees |
in NOVA about $2.50 per DELIVER plus tips... |
This is my second job, I am a high school teacher... |
Get off your ass and cook or get your own food. “Problem” solved. |
This is a mistake that many make - they aren't doing a full cost analysis and are fooled into thinking that they make more money than they do. Once you account for the gas you paid for, insurance and other "wear and tear" on the auto. You are probably at 8-10 an hour. Now take out the taxes that will be due. The only way it works is if you are getting great tips every time and that just doesn't happen. I'm not going to say that you are "better off" with a job with a traditional pay structure but you need to keep all this in mind. |
Nobody cares, Cleetus. |
| If there is already a service charge / delivery fee included, then why should I tip? |
Because who knows who gets the delivery fee. The worker counts on the tip to make the $20-$25 an hour. Please stop ordering things. They have enough work without your cheap ass. |
Yeah that’s the thing. The more fees added the less I’m actually going to order. I might order 3x the door dash if fees were reduced 50%. |
Look, tipping is not charity. People tip because the unspoken contract is that tip is included in price. But it’s unspoken and especially in new transactions like door dash, some people won’t do it. Save up your ire for Door Dash, which made the decision to make you rely on tips rather than pricing them into your payment directly. |
