Did anyone apply their child to admission to K and get admitted to the Pre-K program?

I don't live in DC anymore but I am thinking of applying my son who is 4 and a half to a private school. He would be going into K next year but has anyone's child applied to K and been allowed to start as a pre-K student? My son is bright but doesn't have the skills he probably needs to go to K next year (short attention span, lots of energy, etc).

I'm pretty sure some of the 5-year old boys in my DD's pre-k class are there for that reason.

We were on the fence about whether our late August child should apply for PreK or K, so we asked the ADs at each of the schools we applied to. Sight unseen, despite excellent test scores, they all said to apply for PreK. If you are unsure what to do, you should ask the ADs. It seems that these schools have official cutoff dates of 9/1, but unofficial dates that are earlier.
