| I understand a juicer is pretty nice, and may get one, but until I decide is it possible to use a food processor? Pros and cons? |
| No you can't. You could do a smoothie type juice with a blender. I blend kale but its a heavy duty one and is thicker then a juice |
| A food processor will just puree. It won't extract the juice from the fibrous parts of the fruit/vegetable. You can definitely make smoothies though. |
|
I tried using the food processor for juice/smoothie with green veggies (kale etc) and fruit and it was gross. It doesn't break down the tough parts enough so there were chunks and it tasted awful. I have since gotten a Vitamix and it's fantastic. I also have a Breville juicer but don't use it anymore - too much wasted pulp and too many parts to clean.
Maybe look on craigslist for a used juicer? I'm thinking of selling mine as I prefer the Vitamix smoothies to juice. |
| What is the difference between a vitamix, Breville, and Omega? |
|
The Vitamix is a blender on steriods. It's a super powerful blender. We make peanut butter in ours! Also, we make a lot of Indian food that requires grinding dry lentils, whole spices, coconut, etc. Blenders in India are very powerful, but here, we've blown out the motors on many a blender or food processor trying to make Indian masalas or chutneys. The Vitamix can handle all of that and make soup as well!
I'm not sure how the Breville and Omega compare. |
|
PP here - oops spelled steroids wrong.
Also, for juicing veggies and greens like Kale, the Vitamix breaks them down much more efficiently so they taste better and you don't get the grainy, pulpy texture in veg smoothies. The are actually, smooth! |
| pp, which vitamix model do you use? |
| You cannot juice in a food processor. You can kind of sort of blend, but it will be gross and chunky. I too have a Vitamix and blend green drinks for my kids daily. If I'm too lazy to cook a vegetable for dinner, I just blend a bunch up and serve it as the drink at dinner. |
