Please tell me the best way to clean the ear wax that is a little deeper

Anonymous
No this is not a child asking the question. I grew up using qtips to clean the wax and about 6 months back, my doctor had my ear cleaned and told me to just wipe the wax that is reachable with a cotton ball. But the problem now I think is I have too much wax inside and my ear is plugging up sometimes. If I try to stick my finger and loosen wax, it is all good.

Please tell if there is another alternative? I know wax is good but I think I have too much. TIA!

Baby oil or hydrogen peroxide in ear for a few minutes, then flush w/ warm water from an ear or nose bulb syringe.

I went to a ent doctor for a bad cold. He cleaned my ears out with specialized tools. Lots of wax out of both ears. He said never put anything in the ear. It will get compacted and be really hard to get out. He was down on K street.

This...with just hydrogen peroxide is what both my ENT, and my kid's pediatrician recommended for our extreme amounts of ear wax.

Wax Vac.

Note: if you or your child has ear tubes, do not do any of these things.

Let the peroxide sit in the ear for a few minutes (it'll fizz) to loosen the wax. I like to use a baby aspirator to flush the wax out with water.

Do not use a Q-Tip or anything that will push/compact the ear wax. However, you can get ear cleaners that look like tiny spoons that will allow you to scoop the wax out. Do this gently and be careful not to scrape the inside of the ear canal; if you scratch it, you could cause an ear infection. You can get ones that are plastic (our pediatrician uses one like this): http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=394704&catid=184300&aid=338666&aparam=goobase_filler or you can get bamboo ones like this: http://www.ecrater.com/p/16481523/japanese-mimikaki-bamboo-ear-cleaner?gps=1. Asian cultures have been using the bamboo ones for a very long time. The bamboo tends to be softer and less like to scratch the ear canal.

You should use a cricket. Get some fishing line, attach it to the cricket with superglue. Right before you go to bed put cricket is ear. It will buzz around a bit, but it is just eating the wax. In the morning pull it out. Oh don't use a male cricket.

OP, are you Asian? Some Asians have a "hard ear wax" gene (no, I'm not even joking). It makes ear wax harder to clean out. That's why some Asian cultures have cleaning rituals wherein someone helps clean another's ear with an implement like PP mentioned:

Usually, a mom will clean out the kids' ears, or a DH will clean for DW. Seems a little gross to Westerners, but it is really effective if you're careful.

Another thing: DH is Asian (which is how I know about all this). He used to get HORRIBLE ear wax buildup because of his genetics. It all went away when he started washing the inside of his ears gently with soap in the shower (just a little on a washcloth and then a quick scrub). Then he twirls a Qtip in there after the shower to get the loosened wax. We seriously went from me having to use a bulb syringe on him once a month to never having to ever. I know it sounds really common sense, but how many people really focus on making sure they scrub their ears in the shower?

Has anyone actually used this? Does it work??

Flush it with warm water a few times as necessary using a bulb syringe

My doctor recommended putting in a few drops in mineral oil to soften the wax, then rinse with warm water using a syringe.

But with the females, don't you need to worry about the eggs it lays?
