Neuropsych testing for adults

Anonymous
I have always wondered whether I have ADHD but haven't been tested. People tend to dismiss my concerns because I have a Ph.d and my problem was not obvious until I was an adult. But I think it was because I was smart enough to compensate my deficits.

Now that my son is approaching school age and shows a lot of similarity to me I would like to get to the bottom of this. Have any of you done this? Any recommendations?

I suspected ADD, and looking back I had classic signs of an attentional issues in school. I was successful at work, because of the career I chose but I believe the ADD held me back. I recently mentioned my issues to a therapist. She sent me to psychiatrist and after we chatted he prescribed a non-stimulant daily med. It took a while to get used to, but it has made a big difference for me.

OP - I think that the same people who test children can and do also test adults.

I would look at a place like Stixrud.

I too have suspected for years that I have ADHD, DS has it and I see so much of myself in him. Maybe I'll get tested too.

Stixrud has two psychologists who work with adults: Wendy Law and Robb Mapou.
