Anyone use this baby hammock instead of a bassinet in the beginning? Would you recommend it?
Also, can you put a newborn right in or do you need to buy an additional positioner? When did your baby grow out of it? The website says you can use it past a year, but I'm skeptical . . . . |

OP here is what I can tell you..... I researched the Amby a lot along with the Arm's Reach co-sleeper for my new arrival. I would have loved to use the Amby, but ended up choosing the Arm's Reach for a few reasons. First and honestly a big factor was the price. I was able to get a gently used (3months old) arm's reach co-sleeper for less than $100 where as the Amby is $275 new and non-returnable. For a product being used less than a year I just couldn't see spending the extra money. Second, I felt that with my small space in my residence that I would get more versatile use out of the co-sleeper even after I stopped using it next to the bed since it converts to a pack-n-play. I liked that I would use it in that function even longer.
The average age for the Amby being used from what I have read is around 8 months..... I wouldn't plan on up to a year. If cost was excluded from my decision I probably would have purchased the Amby, BUT I still think I would have wanted a co-sleeper or pack-n-play nearby as a back up since I read that some babies just never took to it. If your baby won't take to swaddling than likely will not like the Amby. Have you looked at the co-sleeper as another option besides a bassinet? |

OP here -- thanks for your thoughts! A friend offered to lend us her Amby hammock, so cost isn't an issue. It's more about space -- we don't want to accumulate too much extra stuff (even free/borrowed stuff). That plus the fact that the hammock seems quite different than a crib/bassinet, so we were curious about others' experiences.
And I'm still curious about whether you can plop a newborn right in or whether you need to add some sort of positioner until baby gets a bit bigger. Thoughts anyone? |

Hi-
We borrowed an Amby from a friend for our second baby-- He was in there from the beginning without a positioner. It was GREAT-- Used it till about 5 months-- He then started flipping over and preferred to sleep on his belly in the crib (no matter how many times I tried to flip him back!"
