looking for a nursery school for my 2 year boy this fall.
any commend for Bannockburn Nursery School and Suburban Nursery School? which one will you choose? |
They are very similar and excellent schools. I appreciated that Suburban Nursery School's facilities and outdoor grounds are great and that they have sibling sitting which makes it easier to coop when you have a little one. Good luck! |
Bannockburn is the most welcoming and friendly community we have encountered in the DC area. Lovely gardens, great staff and totally unpretentious. |
You've been to EVERY other community and can make this comparison? |
We looked at both and opted for Bannockburn. Yes the facilities at Suburban look more school like but we just didn't warm to the place. We felt a warmer atmosphere at Bannockburn
I wouldn't word it quite like the previous poster and we don't live in the immediate neighborhood so can't comment on that but we are more than happy with our choice and the teacher your DS would have is so so nice. |
Bump - Does anyone else have thoughts on this? |
Hi there,
We've been at Suburban for the past year and a half and love it. Last year, I really appreciated the split between a younger two and older two classroom as my kiddo is younger and was in a very different place developmentally than the almost-threes. Ellen (teacher of the younger twos) was fantastic with all of the kids and parents. This year, I really like that his teacher is so calm and consistent and the focus is on positive interactions: it is exactly what we want for our kiddo right now. I've found the community to be very welcoming and am pleased to be part of it. I did a pretty extensive search of co-op preschools in the metro area and found Suburban to be the best fit for us - it really is so personal. The membership committee is happy to give individual tours to any parent who is interested and kiddos are welcome to come along; I learned more from that tour than I did from the open house. I hope this is helpful. Good luck finding the right place for your little one. |
I could echo the post above but replace Suburban with Bannockburn and change the teacher name.
I know there are some differences between the school but I'd visit both and go with your instinct on what you feel is best for you and your child. There was nothing wrong with Suburban when we saw it, we just preferred Bannockburn and have been more than happy with our choice. The Director is excellent and will be more than happy to talk to you. |
PP 22:44 here. I said it was the most welcoming community we had encountered in DC - not that it was the best compared to absolutely everywhere else. No, we haven't been everywhere and I'm sure Suburban is lovely too. Chill out. |
I’ve had two kids at suburban and one that will be attending soon. I’m sure bannockburn is a lovely school but I could not say nicer things about suburban. It’s an amazing community of families and teachers that have supported my family and children (we received meals for a month through a coordinated meal train with the school when my youngest was born!) The teachers treat my kids like their own. They are loving, caring, and compassionate. Their play based learning has instilled a love for school in both my children. Their outdoor space is amazing! I really could not be happier with a school. |
Bannockburn is great - that was out top choice, but ended up having to go with another option that offered aftercare. Suburban also sounds great, but I believe is still a co-op, so parents may need to volunteer to some degree. |
