Have you heard of something like this happening before? (hacker on real estate agent's email)

So we are closing on a house soon. My agent sent me instructions on wiring the down payment to the title company. Then today, she sent me "updated" instructions to wire the money to some random guy in the Bronx, and of course I emailed her back like "What?" and she immediately called me and told me this is some sort of scam and someone has hacked into our emails (I'm pretty sure whatever this is occurred on her email). I am a little freaked out by this. Has anyone ever heard of something like this? I am now super worried about any confidential information about me that my agent might have in her emails or something.

I own a title company and it sounds believable to me. Pretty good scam actually. Target real estate agent emails and email their contact books. Some idiot will wire funds.

But the timing... is a little too spot-on for this to be a random thing, right? And also, shouldn't I report this to some sort of law enforcement agency? I mean, someone just attempted to scam me out of a six figure sum of money!! Can you even trace a wire like that?

Report it to the FTC.

OP here. I looked this up and I think it would be more appropriate to report to the FBI cybercrime website?

this is clearly a crime (or an attempt at least), so I will call the police, and they will tall you where to report it
