...Are there also benefits to public/public charter schools that do not give sibling preference?
Anyone here know of a school system or area where schools do not give sibling preference, and what are the differences in enrollment (other than the obvious), in how long students stay at that school (i.e. do parents value kids together more than one kid at a great school, so they'd pull the one at the great school to have 2 at easier to get into school?).... what are the differences? |

I would say that there are no benefits to a school that doesn't give sibling preference. Benefits to parents without a sibling already enrolled, sure, but not for the school. The longer your family has a kid at a school, the more invested you are in that schools success. So the more likely you, the parent, will give money and time to the school.
It sucks from the outside looking in, but what a huge, wonderful blessing once you are on the inside. I know; I've been on both sides. And now I have my older kid in K at a great school (out of bounds) and a rising pre-k kid who will be there with him next year. It has totally changed our life. |
as long as all spots are not taken by IB children. I know a family who got 1 child in through OOB and when it came time for sibling, there was no room. |
| It's a citywide school. No in-bounds preference. But you are right--it's not a sure thing at a lot of schools. |
So what did the family do? |
So what did the family do? I am not the PP, but I know families where this happened. They sent kids to two different schools until the second sibling was admitted from the waiting list. I imagine it happens more and more at high demand schools like Brent. Eventually I guess it will stop when there are no more OOB families. |

No good reason to stay beyond 4th at the latest. |
