Do you still do annual OB check-up?

Anonymous
My OB recommends an annual exam, but I'm wondering what others do - every year, every 2 years?

It's been 3 years for me. I've never had an abnormal pap, am monogamous, and have no concerns or complaints. No rush to head back.

Every year. I think I'm low-risk for just about everything and probably wouldn't go as often if I were childless, but my OB/GYN used that "mother of young kids" line on me and it worked.

I do it every year. I am 39.

Interesting. I do it every year. It's only a small co-pay, and while I'm not high risk, ovarian cancer is very deadly, so why not get the check every year, if it means earlier detection?

Every year. I'm 45. A few years ago I would have said I'm low-risk for everything. Even had that special test to rule out 10 different strains of HPV or whatever, which means you can go to every 2-3 years for a PAP. But my mother was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, so I have to be more vigilant now as well.

Every single year. Without fail. I have an aunt who died of ovarian cancer, and generally think it's really important to do everything I can to stay healthy for myself and my kid. Having the doc root around my lady bits once a year is just part of that.

Abnormal paps, here.

Every 6 months. Usually followed by a colposcopy.

You need to do it every other year according to my OB. Unless you relish the idea of being diagnosed with late stage cancer and then dying soon after b/c you were too lazy to get annual checkups.

How does the doc check for ovarian cancer?

My gyn says a pap and exam every year. Some are more comfortable waiting longer but he says doing so will mean some missed problems and he doesn't want to accept that risk.

There sadly is no routine screening test for ovarian cancer. There are blood tests and transvaginal ultrasound can detect tumors. This is why it is extremely important that women advocate for their own health and insist on these screenings if they have any suspicion of symptoms.

But obviously your annual exam is crucial to the early detection of cervical cancer.

My OB says the new guideline is every three years, but that most people are still coming in every year.

OB exam = prenatal care. I get a lot of those the years I'm pregnant.

I follow the recommended guidelines for GYN care.

Pap every year, mom's friend died of ovarian cancer at 26. Not worth the risk. Ever.
