| I love Sadie and Ruby, but they both seem a little young to me. I hesitate to use them unless I can come up with a longer form name that could be used in a more adult, professional setting one day if desired. The only options I've seen are really bad, though -- they seem like made up names. Am I missing anything obvious? |

Sadie is a nickname for Sarah.
Ruby is a stand alone name. |
this is correct. |

Sadie Doggy
Ruby Doggy (I hope I have steered you clear of these pet names!!!!) |
Really? What do you consider good names? These ones are very popular and common. |
|
They seem young to you? I have two great aunts named Sadie and Ruby. Both in their 80s.
Sadie may have started as a nickname for Sarah but has been used standalone for decades now. |
OP here. I know that, but I guess I was hoping for some more creative options. Maybe there aren't any. |
Anything that ends in the -y sound seems young to me. |
| Sadreth and Rubreth. Sexy Sadie and Randy Ruby. Why? Just don't give your daughter an ironically lascivious name just to show how hip and libertine you are. Your life isn't a Henry Miller novel, no matter how you say it is in your head, you know. |
Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Where in the world did this come from? |
| I think the PP is pointing out how incredibly ridiculous it is to drum up a name that will never be used just so that you can have a great nickname. Just go with the shortened name and stop being as the PP described (I certainly can't say it any better myself). |
| Sadie and Ruby serve up a mean plate of eggs at the Diner. Ruby drinks out back and does some trade... |
Then don't pick names that end in a y sound. There many other options out there. |
| I love the name Ruby all by itself. |
