Parents:
I would appreciate any constructive feedback regarding the classes for PREK 3/4 on the following Charter schools: LAMB Bridges Inspired Teaching and EL Haynes Thank you. |
| Have you checked the archives? There are pages upon pages of info on these schools. If you need more you'd be better off asking specific questions--constructive feedback is pretty vague. Good luck. |
+1 Are you looking for info. about chances of getting in via lottery or the actual quality of instruction/program? |
| So you have spent 30 seconds learning about charter schools and you want someone to spoon feed you info. Um, no. |
|
Lesson #1: You have a very slim chances of getting into any of those schools. Apply, but don't hold your breath. The two with the (relatively) shorter waitlists might be IT and Bridges, but not by much.
Lesson #2: All of these schools will have more slots for 3 year olds than 4 year olds as it's their opening class. Lesson #3: Search the archives. |
| As you can see, DCUM is a very thoughtful place. Don't take it personally, it's an over-arching characteristic of the website. |

OP here
Wow. Did not mean to inspire acrimony. Just looking for some thoughtful up-to-date feedback on quality of schools. I apologize for not being more exact. Are the teachers at these schools warm and nurturing? If you like the school, what is it that stands out for you and your child. I know there are always negatives but looking for strengths. And by the way I did search archives. If I had found enough substance I would not have reasked. Please save the snark. Not neccessary or productive Thanks for the input. |
I'm scratching my head OP--there must be a thousand posts in the archives from people saying what they like about the schools, what works best for their families, how warm and nurturing the teachers are etc etc. I'm sure some people can give you more feedback but I'd be surprised if you heard from anyone who hasn't already weighed in at some point previously. This really isn't meant to be snarky, it's just not clear what more you could be looking for. |
| FWIW, I think you have the best chance at Bridges by far. They went through their entire waitlist eventually (by the first couple weeks of school). We are there, and very happy. Our son is learning a ton, excited to go to school, developing friendships, just a very positive experience overall. LAMB and EL Haynes are really, REALLY difficult to get into - so much so, that I'd hardly do more than basic research until you get your lottery number. We were in the 300s at each, and I was glad I hadn't wasted time at open houses, etc. Although it's great to be prepared, you'll likely fall in love with a school(s) at which you'll never get a spot. |
Agree about Bridges, but think it will get more and more difficult to get into, as people realize they can stay long-term (as long as any other ES in DC). OP, you'll be lucky to get into any of those four, and likely be very happy at any or all. GL. |
If you're looking in Ward 4, can also try Cap City, Sela, or Takoma Ed Campus, which is enjoying a renaissance of sorts. |
| We are at Bridges in the Ps/3 program and love it. My kid has an IEP and the special needs team there is superb. I can't say enough good things about the school and teachers. |
More and more Ward 4 parents are staying at TEC, do check it out - my son is loving his time there. In addition, some neighbors of ours are active in Sela, and it does sound like they are going to have a beautiful campus and are hiring a really quality staff, if you are willing to take a chance on a new school. Cap City has a beautiful campus, but I understand is impossible to get into for the younger grades because of sibling preference. |
Regarding Capital City Public Charter School (CCPCS), when they were at the old location in Columbia Heights is was near impossible to get in b/c of sibling preference. Entry year is now PreS (3YOs) and they have 36 spots. I would expect that 1/2 will be taken by siblings - but this is really a guess. PreK (4YO) spots will only open up if a 3YO does not re-enroll. K and 1st offer a few spots as the class size grows. |
| Cap City is impossible to get in. We were #14 on the ps3 waitlist and by end of Sept. we only moved up two slots to #12. Almost all of the movement on the waitlist is for newly admitted siblings. |
