Freeze pre balled cookie dough in the freezer. When people pop up, just stick as many cookies as u want in the oven, and add an extra min or two cooking time. Works great!

Water crackers or wheat thins + cream cheese + fancy jelly on top (peach pepper).

Candied nuts.

Makings of dip (sour cream, packet of fancy dip).

Baby carrots.

Jar of fancy olives (stuffed with jalapeƱo, whatever).

Chocolates.

Wine, sparkling fruit soda.

I keep extras of most of these things.

Pistachios, cashews, mixed nuts. We always have a hunk of cheese, crackers and olives around as well. We have lots of people drop in so we're prepared!

Oh, and always well-stocked up with beer and wine!

15:45. I agree. People should call before coming over. I hate drop ins. So rude.

Cheese? Keep crackers in the pantry and just slice the cheese once people get there.

A good bottle of Tempranillo
Manchego cheese
Green olives with the pits still in
Keep some type of frozen bread you can bake and slice up (like a french bread)
Plus whatever fruit you have on hand (oranges, apples, etc.)

Some of the jarred picked vegetables are quite tasty - I've had asparagus, green beans, and carrots that I thought were good. I assume these keep for a long time unopened.

Yuck. At least that will ensure that the visitors don't drop in again!
