| Help! DH is an immigrant, so when he came to the US he didn't have a credit score. I didn't realize it at the time, but when I added him as the secondary card holder on my cards it wasn't really helping matters. Every credit card we've tried to get him in the past year or so has refused him. Every single one. I am at a loss what to do. I'm the one who manages the financial stuff, so how can I help him improve his credit score/get him a credit card? TIA!! |
| Can you start with one of those pre-paid credit cards with a lower credit limit and work up from there. |
Put some of your household utility bills in his name. Go to a credit union and have him get a small "passbook loan." They'll "lend" against cash on deposit at very low rates and report the transaction favorably if "paid as agreed." |
| Put some of your household utility bills in his name alone. Sorry. |
| also, department stores will issue credit to anyone, even a corpse. |
| Agree with PP. Try gas cards, too. |

DW was in same situation. Macy's gave her a card, and she boutgh some stuff, paid it off on time, and then was eligible for a card from CapOne, etc.
Now she has a higher creidt score than me, mainly because I have a high debt load (though not relative to income). |
