Budgeting Time for Job Fair

Anonymous
I plan to attend my first job fair next week, and I'll be renting a Zipcar to get there. I'm in the process of reserving the car and I'm trying to figure out how much time I should give myself. How long does it usually take to talk to employers (and do interviews if any of them are interested) in your experience? I was planning to give myself 3 1/2 hours, and that would include the time it takes to get the car at the Metro and drive to the fair (Google maps said it would be 15 mins with traffic).

3 hours sounds like a good amount of time but may depend on how many tables you plan to visit. When you make your reservation, take a look at when the car is going to be reserved next. Although it can change and someone else could rent the car right after your 3.5 hours, if it's a weekday and not very popular time, you could easily extend your reservation as needed.

I've never been to a job fair where they actually did interviews. They usually feel like a waste of time and I'm out of there in an hour.

Agree. It's usually just a place to pick up brochures and talk for a couple minutes to company reps who tell you to either apply online or give them a copy of your resume, which they put in a big stack.
