Mouse on the couch!

Anonymous
Ugh! Maybe ds will finally listen and stop eating on the couch. I am going to get it cleaned (and, obviously dealing with the mouse problem). Would you not sit on it until it's cleaned?

I'd freak out, and then vacuum it. I wouldn't get it cleaned until I was sure that the mouse problem was under control. Eeek!

I hate to break it to you but I think this mouse might have babies somewhere. Anytime we see a mouse on a couch - it's not because of food but because it's a nice place to put a nest.

Take off the cushions and push down around the edges looking for a hole the size of a quarter. Turn the couch upside down looking for a little hole.

You think a mouse is a problem wait till you vacuum out those babies.

Stop blaming your child because you have a mouse problem.

Oh yuck.

Op, you should get a cat.

Is this the new Samuel L. Jackson vehicle?

"There's a motherfuckin' mouse on the motherfuckin' couch!"

Mice are nocturnal. If they are out and about during the daytime and/or hanging out in plain sight while you are in the vicinity, it may be a sign that there are quite a few of them.

I think you need a more comprehensive plan for addressing this then having the couch cleaned.

Yup, you definitely have more than one.

Also, I agree that you need to stop blaming your child. One, you allow him to eat there. Two, the mouse would have found your food stash somewhere else if not on the sofa.

Yes, dd saw it very early in the morning when it was dark so they are likely nocturnal here too. I am not blaming my child to his face. But he was sick yesterday and left a lot of crumbs on the couch. I should have vaccuumed it before I went to bed but I didn't want to wake anyone up -- so I am to blame. DD saw the mouse in the area where the crumbs were. I agree that there is likely more than one. I put some packets in areas where the exterminator puts them and am waiting for the exterminator to come out. In the meantime, no one is sitting on the couch.

I thought it was the post-holiday version of elf on the shelf: "The mouse knows whether you've been dropping crumbs AND IT WILL KILL YOU THROUGH HANTA VIRUS."

OP, do you live in DC? If so, what Ward?

Lift the cushions and put on thick garden gloves. I personally would put the couch in the yard if there are any holes. I did that with armchairs.

Who knows how many were living in there. Mice hate ammonia so after lifting the cushions spray the couch and crevices. Be prepared for a run out of mice.

This is why we have a cat. I don't even like cats. But we've never had a mouse.

That's so silly. What do you think might happen if you sit in the same place a mouse sat??

If you saw it, it was not the first time he's been up there.

Put it next to the elf on a shelf.

Huh? Are you saying those in Potomac or McLean don't get mice? They are equal opportunity rodents, not just denizens of Ward 8.

I would freak if I saw one on the couch, too. By the way, our cats like to play with the occasional mouse in our house rather than kill them, sad to say.
