so my husband and i went in to Shady Grove for our first appointment yesterday, and since i am still "young" (34) and we haven't been trying a full year yet, they are recommending IUI+clomid and FSH. i've heard mixed results on it, and would love to hear some stories from anyone who's gone through it successfully. we are technically "unexplained" at this point, as DH has had a good SA, and my FSH looks fine. i did have a weird HSG, but the doctor said that could have been the result of a spasm, and is not necessarily indicative of anything.
any thoughts? |
I got pregnant with Baby #1 after my first IUI at Shady Grove. For my first cycle, I was to do Clomid & FSH + IUI, but I never ovulated, so that cycle was cancelled. For the next cycle, I did Gonal-F injections, FSH + IUI and it worked!
Also, FWIW, Shady Grove is awesome. I have a friend who is an OB and she thinks they're one of the best clinics in the country. I had a great experience there and I know several couples who tried other popular area clinics without success, but got pregnant soon after switching to SG. You're in good hands. Good luck! |
I have PCOS and needed help ovulating. I did four rounds of clomid + HCG trigger shot + IUI. I got BFN's with Round 1 and 2. Round 3 resulted in pregnancy; unfortunately I had a missed miscarriage around 7 weeks. I am currently 5 months pregnant after Round 4.

I am currently pg with #1 from an IUI at Shady Grove. Like you I was unexplained -- I am 33, all tests were good including my husband's SA. We did one IUI with 100 mg clomid that was unsuccessful, but then went down to 50 mg clomid for the second IUI, which did the trick. I think Shady Grove is a great clinic, you will get very good care there. good luck! |
Another Shady Grove veteran here! I too was unexplained and 'young'
My 2nd IUI with them was successful (50 mg Clomid and 150 Iu Follistim). I agree with the PP's, Shady Grove is an excellent clinic, I've never gotten better medical care! Best of luck |
my good friend got preg with twins from IUI with Dr. Sharara in Reston VA. |
I got pg after my first IUI with injectibles at Shady Grove. I'm 40 and was skeptic about wasting my time with IUSs, I wanted to go directly to IVF. My Dr. convinced to try it and I'm glad we did. I also support the comments about SG, they are great and my DR. (Dr. Widra knows his stuff). You arein good hands. Good luck! |
Another former patient of Dr. Widra at SG here. He's great, but I think the whole SG operation's pretty good, especially compared to what friends in other parts of the country have had to deal with.
We tried on our own for about a year then started going through tests recommended by my GYN who wasn't that concerned because I was ovulating and had very regular cycles. SA for DH came back fine. My HSG came back fine. So then we got a referral for SG, where the diagnosis was "unexplained." I was 34 and DH was 44 when we got the diagnosis and recommended treatment plan, but I turned 35 by the time we started treatment a few months later: Clomid+ injectibles (FSH and hcg triggers) + IUI. We finally had success withl our third (and final) IUI cycle, which was also the cycle that the medication dose/timing was tweaked a bit and the cycle that DH had an excellent count for his sample. |
Just finished my 2nd cycle with SG, and it worked. I'm 5 weeks pregnant with solid betas, so things are looking good. I'm 32 with 1 child already, but had a high FSH, but husband was normal. We did an IUI with Gonal F injections.
Beyond the success, everyone at SG was a dream to deal with. My nurse actually called 12+ pharmacies in Chicago to find me a medication when I had to travel unexpectedly during my cycle. I was shocked to see such customer service - especially in healthcare! |
