pregnancy test...might be stupid question!

I just posted this on the expectant mom's board and thought I should post it here...

Good morning all:

I am a day late and took a pregnancy test this morning, which came back positive--barely. By barely, I mean there were definitely two lines but one was VERY faint. The instructions read that one line may be lighter but it is really, really light.

What I am wondering is, does the test (and therefore faintness of the lines) detect the amount of pregnancy hormone or just that you have the hormone, period. I have had two chemical pregnancies in the past year and don't want to get all excited about this...just in case! I looked on the manufacturer's web site but this issue isn't addressed.

Yes, pregnancy test detect the amount of pregnancy hormone. When the line is very faint, it means it is very early in the pregnancy and you have a very low level of pregnancy hormone. So yes, do not get too excited b/c it could be a chemical pregnancy, it could also just be that the level is low b/c it is just very early in the pregnancy. What you should do is wait 48hours and test again (this is doctor's advice that I am relating to you). When you test again, it should be that the line is darker. Good luck.

Generally, a line is a line. You're pregnant. Now yes you could miscarry, but for now, you're pregnant. I would test again in a couple days before calling the doctor.

i am so excited for you and i don't even know you!!! we've been ttc and i'm a few days post ovulation and just keep thinking about how i've got DAYS still to go before i will know if this worked or not!!

Be careful - it could also be an evaporation line you are seeing. Check out this website for more info: http://www.peeonastick.com/hptfaq.html#7 (I think they even have photos you can compare your test to)
As someone that has been ttc for a long time, I used the cheap-o tests on a regular basis, but when I really thought I was pg I invested in a digital test so I didn't have to guess.

A line means you are pregnant, a faint line means it is very early in the pregnancy, you don't have much of the pregnancy hormone yet.
