Bethesda preschool feedback

Anonymous
I am currently looking into preschools for my soon to be 3 year old daughter. Schools under more serious consideration include Bethesda Country Day, Lone Oak Montessori and the YMCA Arylawn preschool. Any feedback on any of these would be greatly appreciated! Also, am I missing any great schools in the area? (Criteria includes full day program for at least a few days a week.) Thank you!

Christ Episcopal Preschool in Rockville. It's the best in Montgomery County. Master teachers, flexible schedules, the backing of the NAIS President, Pat Bassett and Johns Hopkins University. They have all praised the effectiveness of the style education: inquiry-based.

The mornings are academic and the afternoons are enrichment including Spanish, gymnastics, cooking, art, etc.

It's popularity is gaining a lot of notice. They expanded this year and will be doing it again next year to meet demand while keeping class size small and the teacher:student ration very low: 12 kids and 2 teachers per class.

Oh, and great communication from school to home or else I wouldn't have known much of the above if any of it at all.

Personally, I think Lone Oak is pretty dank. And ask them to show you the "napping" room. From what I remember, it's an old church library where they put dirty mats down and tell the kids they have to sleep from 1-3pm. Oh, and ask them about what the aftercare kids do at 3pm. Don't assume they are with their Montessori teacher, they are definitely not. They are basically just drawing or doing puzzles until you pick them up. They are not allowed to use any Montessori materials. I also heard they lost their AMI accrediation. Personally, I would stay away.

Hi OP, the preschools you mentioned are the ones close to me so I am also looking at them, plus Manor Montessori. We took a tour of Bethesda Country Day. I like the facilities. Next I guess is a Discovery Day. I really want to observe the 3s classroom at each spot before I make a decision.

Hi, Bethesda Reggio in Lynbrook Park near BCC High School is now enrolling. I am the director and would be happy to show you our program which follows the Reggio-Emilia approach using language, arts, and nature. We are offering spanish immersion with fully bi-lingual teachers so children have the best opportunity for learning a second language while preparing for kindergarten.

We have open houses each Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. Please call to let us know you can stop by. You can call 301-310-8008 or email Contact@BethesdaReggio.com

I'd encourage you to check out Children in the Shoe. Much smaller facilities, with more one on one teacher time and much. We wouldn't go anywhere else!

Is this the Lynbrook where the kids walked out ?
No WAY.

For PP, good question...no Behesda Reggio is not same as the daycare run by MCCA. Bethesda Reggio is on Newdale Road in a one-story brick schoolhouse with fenced in play area. We are a Reggio-inspired program for children 2-5 years old featuring spanish immersion, bilingual preparation for kids in their pre-k year and we use art. nature, and music to spark creativity and self-confidence.

We are enrolling now and have open houses every Saturday at 8008 Newdale Road in Bethesda. For more information, email Contact@BethesdaReggio.com or call 301-310-8008

We like Wonders at Edgemoor.

I really like bcds. They have really gotten their act together and the new front office staff is wonderful. They still have a good core of teachers and our child has really exploded in learning there.

Rock Spring is truly incredible. That said, it's only full-time full-day, not sure if that meets your criteria..
