75 ppl (work colleagues), in bethesda or silver spring, needs to come to about $15/person
i'm thinking a restaurant that has a party room in the afternoon would fit the bill with heavy apps anda cash bar - lebanese taverna is all i can come up with so far also, if we were to rent a community center, can you think of where we could cater from that would come to $15/person needs to be good food and sort of stylish! |
| A cash bar is never stylish. |

Exactly pp -- cash bars are terrible. Why not have just wine or a punch that uses only 8 oz of alcohol per batch. Here's a great one:
64 oz cranberry juice 8 oz vodka 1 can frozen oj 1 can frozen limeaid 1 64 oz ginger ale I make this for all of my parties and people love it. You can get all of the ingredients on sale and make it very cheaply. |

Right - forget the cash bar!
1) Rent a venue - fairfax county and MoCo have lots of venues they rent out that are chic/interesting. 2) Order a couple meat and cheese trays from the Italian store in Vienna or Arlington. Buy rolls too and mustard and mayo (to make sandwiches). 3) Order a couple veggie trays with dip from a grocery store like Giant or Safeway. 4) Buy some bags of party mix and chips, doritos, etc. 4) Buy tons of paper plates, napkins, cutlery, and cups. Like enough for 100 people. 4) Buy beer, vodka, rum, whiskey, ginger ale, cranberry juice, and coke. Also be sure to have lots of coolers for the beer and for ice for the liquor drinks. This will surely cost at least $15 per person, and as far as I can tell, this is the cheapest route other than a tacky cash bar. |

party is sponsored by work - work can not pay for alcohol - so, individuals have to pay for it themselves, if desired.
venues please! or even better, restaurants! |
| You will be extremely hard pressed to find a restaurant to do any event for $15, especially if you want it to be chic and stylish. I dunno what to tell you. You should pick a couple of places you like, call, and try to negotiate. A newer establishment might be more willing. |
| Try McGintys in Silver Spring. People rent out their bar area for their kids's birthday parties (!) so I am sure they can probably handle a work do. |
| thanks for the mcginty's rec! |

Mandalay. I'm not sure they can do 75 people but can't hurt to ask. We did a rehearsal dinner there. Big round tables and lots of good food.
Flanagans Harp and Fiddle in Bethesda has a back room thy rent out too. |
| thanks, much - i'm looking into the above places.... and just fyi, lebanese tvaerna has a great heavy apps menus for $16/person and founding farmer's does one for $18/person (its a high tea) - both provide space for parties without cost, too |
Don't forget about taxes and gratuity. |
I. Can't. Even. That's about four serves of vodka diluted in about 20 serves of mixer. Do not serve that to your guests. |
