I am curious - we're pg with #2 and I'm having a hard time with names. Our first is Anna and I'd like the name to sound decent with that and our last name which is only three letters long. My thoughts are that I like names with S's and they need to have more than one syllable to avoid sounding harsh with our last name. My favorite girls names are Emerson and Samantha and my current favorite boy name is Charlie. I'm looking for some other names though. Anyone want to help? |
I love this website for baby names issues. She rocks! http://swistlebabynames.blogspot.com/ |
If you haven't already, try out http://www.nymbler.com/. Lots of fun!
Charlie is a great nickname for a boy, but I strongly prefer Charles, nn Charlie. That would give him much more flexibility in life. I don't personally like Emerson as a sister of Anna, which I think of as much more classic, graceful, and feminine. I do like Samantha but it shares that same "an" sound, so it might be a bit repetitive. More ideas for sisters of Anna: Caroline Cecilia Charlotte Claudia Helena Julia Lucy Lydia Sabrina Tabitha |
The book The Baby Name Wizard has a feature where you can look up a name and find "brother" or "sister" suggestions that go well with that name. I found it was really accurate... i.e., if you like the name you look up (like Anna), you will probably like all or most of the others too.
And I love the name Anna! I don't think we are having another child, but Anna or Anne or Elizabeth would probably be my girl picks. So classic, and with Elizabeth, so many nickname opportunities. Our first daughter has a classic name but goes by a nickname. |
Emerson would sound very cute with Anna. I do, however, already know an Emerson, so I don't know if that means that it's becoming popular, or if you care about that sort of thing very much. |
One of the pp's who suggested nymbler here--
It's a product of Laura Wattenberg, the author of the Baby Name Wizard, which was recommended by someone else. Readers of her blog would also love to offer their suggestions, I'm sure: http://www.babynamewizard.com/ |
I have a Charlie -- it's a great name. There are a few around, but he's not going by his last initial all the time either.
Anna is great. If you want S names, does Sarah work with your last name? Other ideas in the classic vein, not necessarily S names, tho: Samuel Nicholas Alexander Alexis Elizabeth Have fun. We found naming #2 to be MUCH harder than #1. |
OP here: Thanks for the suggestions. I love the website Nymbler - have not seen it before! Thanks! Also, our Anna is an Anna Elizabeth - we love to call her Annabeth - so cute. ( IMO ). My name is Sarah, so can't use that again ![]() |
