I am considering separation and eventual divorce from my husband. I am trying to imagine where I could possibly live in this area--I think that my budget would be 350-500. We live in Glover Park now, and I've always wanted to move out of the city, but still maintain an urbanish feel. I hate Bethesda, but I think I'm too un-crunchy for Takoma Park--though it is so beautiful, and I think folks would accept a divorced person there more easily than other neighborhoods. Thoughts?
McLean Gardens.
Accept a divorced person? I think most people get that divorce happens. Just pick a neighborhood you like.
Honey, you are not too "un-crunchy" for Takoma Park. Not everyone in Takoma Park wears patchouli and clothes woven by Tibetan monks every day. There are many of us who are just solidly middle class, employed in run of the mill DC jobs, and trying to raise our kids the best we can in an area we can afford.
How old are you?
Divorced woman here. I would recommend Arlington, from Ballston to the river and south to 7 corners. It seems like there are tons of single men in the area.

OP, here--thanks for the suggestions. I'm 38, to answer 8:50. McLean Gardens is a great suggestion, and I'm glad to hear that you are allowed in to Takoma Park even if you get your armpits lasered
I am more of a DC/MD than a VA person, but more suggestions welcome! |
Haha, I came on here to suggest that you move to Glover Park, because I know a ton of young-ish divorced women AND men in the neighborhood. I also know a lot of non-divorced men that are ripe for the picking, if that's your thing...
I second the recommendation for Arlington - divorced dad here and while there a lot of young single types (both men and women in their 20's/early 30's), there are plenty of working divorced professionals (mid-30s+) I have run into as well. if you have kids, then north arlington will offer really good schools.
I live in TPK and thought I'm sure you'd fit in as an individual here, I think it's lacking the nightlife and social vibe you may want if you're interested in meeting people or dating. Glover Park sounds like a great idea!
