| Yes. |
| Sure. Sounds like Swanson or Williamsburg |
| FARMS too high for me. |
| Definitely. |
| Yes, so as long as my child isn't in general math at a 17% sol pass rate! Jeesh! |
| That pass rate does seem very low compared to the other numbers. Is 17% correct? My DS's MS has similar racial make up, a FARM rate of around 5%, but the 8th grade general math pass rate was 89%. |
Many schools are really striving to have as many kids as possible taking Algebra I in eighth grade (and some in 7th). The students left in "general math" tend to be remedial students, so the pass rates are really low. The stats look good to me, OP. As has been noted many times before, check out the pass rates for your child's subgroups and use that as guide. |
| No problem with the ethic demographics or FARMS but I would want to know the raw numbers as well as the percentages for the SOL scores. 2 students attempting the Geography SOL in 8th grade and both passing equals a 100% passing rate. In this hypothetical example, I think I would prefer a larger number of students attempting the Geography SOL with a lower passing percentage. |
This looks like a fairly typical Fairfax County middle school. I would not be worried at all. |
| If the pass rates were the same as noted but the ethnic make up was 90% white would you still be asking? |
no it doesn't. stop fooling yourself. school Asian Black Hispanic White | FARMS Swanson 8.9% 4.0% 18.1% 62.5% | 15.36% Williamsburg 9.5% 4.5% 10.9% 70.1% | 13.06% http://www.apsva.us/Page/1113 http://www.apsva.us/cms/lib2/VA01000586/Centricity/Domain/11/civilrights/Civil%20Rights_2012-13_Web.pdf |
Get defensive much? |
You have got to be kidding. |
+1 That was my reaction, too. |
