Did anyone have trouble conceiving #2 even though it was no issue at all conceiving #1?

I had super easy time conceiving #1, first try, easy pregnancy. With #2 I've had all sorts of problems, MC, chemical pregnancy, no luck getting pg. I am feeling down, wondering if my eggs just got older and this is just over. I was 35 when I had #1, now I am 39. Only 4 years and what a difference this makes. I don't want to do fertility treatments, I am afraid to have twins, I definitely don't want 3 kids and I am worried about complications with twins, I am very petite. How long have you tried if you gave up on #2 before you gave up and if you succeeded, how long did it take.

I didn't have this issue, but I did figure out with #2 that I ovulate late in my cycle (around day 19-21). Have you tried an ovulation predictor kit?

Succeeded with #1 on second try at age 41. Now at age 44, had one miscarriage and no luck with other cycles. Will probably keep trying for another 6 months, but do not plan on ever going back on birth control.

If twins is your only concern with fertility treatments, you can do IVF and do a single embryo transfer. 4 years can make a world of difference with egg quality.

Hand raised!

I conceived #1 on the first try just before my 34th birthday. Then started for number #2 at age 36. It a lot of tears, drugs and money. I'm a lesbian mom, so we did iui's with frozen donor sperm. For 18 months, I tried with a variety of protocols. I did clomid, clomid + injectibles and then just injectibles. And I had an early miscarriage. We did not have coverage for IVF, so that was off the table. I had come to the point where I would give it one more try with injectibles. Then we went on vacation, and I couldn't do any drugs. I came home and knew I was ovulating. Decided on a whim to try an iui. Lo' and behold, it worked. Gave birth just a few days after my 39th birthday.

#1 conceived at 33, born when I was 34.
MCs at 35.5, 36.5 and 37 and 37.5. We are taking a break for a while and may not continue to pursue another child.

#1 at 37 on first try. Started trying for #2 at 38 and after 2 miscarriages tried fertility treatments. Nothing. Gave up and figured I didn't need birth control any more - maybe I would get lucky. Got preg again at 41 but miscarried. Finally got the golden egg and will give birth at 43 - currently 16 weeks.

My eggs got older in just 2 years and for me fertility treatments didn't work at all.

First try for number one. No luck for number 2. extremely frustrating and I think it will never happen, except maybe with IVF (which we cannot afford). I am nearly 41.

Conceived DS on the second try at age 32. Conceived again easily on the first try at age 36, but miscarried. No luck in the nearly two years since then, even though fertility test results all came back normal/good. We are not pursuing fertility treatments for a whole host of reasons, and it's starting to look like DS will be an only (I am not on BC, but we are no longer actively trying -- whatever happens, happens).

I'm about to try for #2 and this makes me so nervous - conceived twice easily (miscarried first time). About to turn 35. I did read that secondary infertility affects 15% of couples .. some may see that percentage as high or low depending on experience.

Best wishes to all who hope to expand their family!

conceived #1 at 27 one cycle, and then IVF at 32 after over a year of TTC. No other fertility treatments. MF and tube blockage issues became an issue. Currently 6months along with ONE baby. Did a SET and IVF worked the first time.

My sister got pregnant with #1 right away at 36. They started trying for another when DC1 was about a year, but had three (maybe four?) miscarriages. She and my BIL had pretty much given up and were coming to terms with their family of three when she got pregnant with my niece, who was born happy and healthy right before her 40th birthday.

They saw a fertility specialist in that period, but did not do any major procedures.

I didn't realize it would be this tough for #2.Had #1 at age 36 without a problem.
I am one of those who has never done BC(staunch catholic).I have never had a MC.
We have been trying for 2 years now without success. We haven't tried any treatments but this is already so frustrating!

yes. conceived first after failed IUI at 38. FSH was 7.2 started again at 40, FSH 12.2. BIOLOGICAL PROOF i'm getting old. oh joy.
i encourage you to see an RE. multiples have higher rates with IUI, but less in IVF. multiples with IVF in women over 40 are even more rare.
take care!
