Hi, if you've been able to get STD since you've been pregnant, I'd like to hear from you. Can you pass along the name of the insurance company and any feedback? Thank you. |
My STD was denied b/c I was pregnant. |
I was able to get it in 2007 - my insurance is Carefirst BCBS. I actually only got it for a day since I am a teacher and went out right before summer break, but hey, a day of pay is a day of pay! Before having it kick in, I had to use 20 of my own sick days....I could then get STD for 2 additional weeks for a vaginal delivery and 4 more weeks for a C-section. |
I was able to. I left work on May 12th. Delivered on June 8th. I was swollen and could not sit anylonger all day. |
OP, do you mean you are not currently covered by STD insurance but would like to get some now that you're pregnant? Or do you mean did people who were already covered qualify for benefits from a pregnancy/childbirth-related condition? |
I was able to get STD after losing my plug, but that was due to my proximity to a hospital. I drove about 300 miles a day for a living.
I started asking for time off when I was so tired and bloated at the end, but the doc told me straight up that normal pregnacy woes are not enough to qualify for STD. There had to be a medical reason before she would sign anything. |
I started a new job when I was 4 1/2 months pregnant. I did not qualify for the STD because my pregnancy was considered a pre-existing condition. |
I started my job this year when I was 3 months pregnant. I did get STD, although the pay percentage was scaled back because of my short tenure at the organization. I ended up with 2 weeks fully paid and 6 weeks half pay for a c-section (would have been 2 full + 4 weeks half pay for normal birth).
This plan is paid for by my employer, a national nonprofit in DC. I'm not sure exactly which company provides it but I've had to fill out forms for Zurich so that may be it. |
I was on STD for 4 months, one month before delivering and 3 months after. My company offers STD for 6 months and then LTD kicks in. I didn't have to use any sick time, but we have unlimited sick, so I guess that's why ![]() |
My same thoughts! I didn't really understand what the OP was asking. |
OP here...Yes, I don't have STD due to some mistakes when shifting over to my husbands's insurance and now that I am pregnant and have just discovered my lack of coverage, I'm seeing that it is nearly iimpossible to get because pregnancy qualifies as a pre-existing condition. Just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation and if they have managed to get it and if so, with what company? |
I have a friend who experienced the same problem and she did not have any luck, unfortunately.
Has anyone heard Obama's radio ad mentioning this issue? Well, it's really related to insurance coverage, but similar concept. |
